Cluster Computing Research and Education in Storia
The PIREH (Cluster Computing Research and Education in Storia) is part of the History department of the Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne University. Its members are teaching computing and statistics to historians and developing tools and software for historical research.
In that respect they are introducing historians to digital humanities. Courses are given to undergraduates as well as post-graduate students. Post-graduates are introduced to statistics and date mining, databases and data management (XML), Map design. Students preparing for a teaching career are also given e-learning strategies and methods courses. Research seminars are devoted to design and management of databases (MySQL-PHP5 and XML), statistics with R. Members of the team are presently working on the development of client interface and online tools designed to provide historians with the means of managing and processing online large databases.
